Infotech Oulu Graduate School

Research student positions

Applications are invited for ten positions starting on the 1st of January 2009, and for a reserve list that will be valid until the next application. The goal for those who are starting their graduate studies is a doctoral degree in four years in these positions. Infotech Oulu Graduate School has 25 research student positions financed by the Ministry of Education. The funding is secure to the end of 2013.

Fields of the school has been electronics, communications engineering, and computer science and information engineering. The director of the school is Professor Risto Myllylä.

The positions can be applied by new graduate students and also those who have already started their studies. Those who will get their degrees by the end of December 2009 can also apply. The funding cannot be started before the date of graduation. The following things are appreciated: grades, research activity, research plan and practice of work.

The research work will be done in the research groups of Infotech Oulu that have been selected for the time period 2010 - 2013 (full or associate members). The groups are

Full members:

• Circuits and Systems Group - CAS (Juha Kostamovaara and Timo Rahkonen)
• Intelligent Systems Group - ISG (Juha Röning and Jukka Riekki)
• Machine Vision Group - MVG (Matti Pietikäinen, Janne Heikkilä and Olli Silven)
• MediaTeam Oulu (Timo Ojala and Mika Ylianttila)
• Wireless Communication Systems Research Group - WICS (Matti Latva-aho and Markku Juntti)

Associate members:

• Biomedical Engineering Research Group - BME (Tapio Seppänen and Timo Jämsä)
• Electronic Materials, Packaging and Reliability Techniques - EMPART (Heli Jantunen and Kari Laasonen)
• Human Interaction with Advanced Mobile Services and Intelligent Environments (Kari Kuutti and Heikki Ailisto)

The research groups have just been selected, and they may differ from the current groups. If you are not sure about belonging to these groups, please contact the director of the group. Applicants outside these groups need to contact a professor in these groups before the application deadline, and ask for a short letter of reference.

The amount of the total salary is decided by the research group. The monthly maximum salary from the Infotech Oulu Graduate School is about EUR 1869 and the possible additional salary comes from the group.
