Infotech Oulu Workshop 2005 fifth in series on Optoelectronic Devices and Instrumentation concentrating this time on ‘MEMS, NEMS and optical microsystems’, will be organized in July 28-30, 2005. The workshop will be lectured in English and is intended for advanced undergraduate and post-graduate students with some background in optics, optoelectronics devices and their manufacturing techniques.
The workshop is closely associated with, and funded by, the Infotech Oulu Graduate School, Graduate School of Modern Optics and Photonics (Joensuu). Graduate students receive tentatively two credit points (2 ov.) by successfully passing the course.

Workshop consists of approximately 16 lecture hours. A recreational social program, which also aims at promoting discussions with instructors and between participants, is an integral part of the workshop.
At the end of the workshop a final examination is arranged for graduate students, who are required to read the preparatory material delivered in advance. Financial support is available to the students of the graduate schools.

Workshop instructors and outline
Prof. Hiroyuki Fujita, University of Tokyo, Japan
Dr. Hiroyuki Fujita received the Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, in 1980.He has been with the Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo as Lecturer (1980-81), Associate Professor (1981-93) and Professor (1993-present).
He is currently a Director (2000-present) of Center for International Research on MicroMechatronics. He is engaged in the investigation of micro electro mechanical systems fabricated by IC-based processes and applications to optics and bio/nano technology. He is also interested in autonomous distributed microsystems. He has published more than 100 original contributions in those fields and received 7 Awards. He is a member of IEEE and IEEJ.

Dr. Ghassan Jabbour, Arizona State University, USA
Associate Research Professor of the Optical Sciences Center at the University of Arizona. He holds degrees in Electrical Engineering, Physics, and Materials Science and Engineering. Professor Jabbour attended Northern Arizona University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the University of Arizona (1994). He has been selected to the Asahi Shimbun 100 New Leaders of the USA and he received the Presidential Award for Excellence from the Hariri Foundation, Washington D.C., in 1997. Professor Jabbour is the Associate Editor of the Journal of the Society for Information Display (JSID). He is the Track Chair of the Nanotechnology Program for the SPIE Annual Meeting. Prof. Jabbour has authored and co-authored over 170 publications, invited talks, and conference proceedings. He is the editor of several books and symposia proceedings involving organic photonics and electronics, and nanotechnology. Prof. Jabbour is the guest editor of the MRS Bulletin issue on “Organic Photovoltaics”. He is the Chair and/or Co-Chair of over 25 conferences related to photonic and electronic properties of organic materials and their applications in displays and lighting, hybrid photosensitive materials, and hybrid integration of semiconducting and nano-materials. Prof. Jabbour is an SPIE Fellow.
